Authenticity: Many places in Provence are full of tourist traps, “museum villages”, and crowded markets filled by everyone but the French. On the walking trails, you can experience Provence as it truly is, in its timeless sense.
Unbeatable setting and scenery for hiking: whether strolling in and around the soft rolling hills through vineyards, olive groves, fruit orchards, and truffle oak plantations, or climbing into foothills of Provencal mountains scented with thyme, rosemary, lavender and savory, or even spotting mountain goats or rare mountain flowers, walking in Provence is a beautiful experience for all your senses.
Hidden Treasures: there are some awe-inspiring monuments and ruins only accessible by foot: 500 year-old stone dwellings and shepherd’s huts, Romanesque chapels, remnants of protective walls built in the times of the plague, prehistoric cave dwellings…
Off the beaten tourist path: Some of the most popular tourist villages in Provence receive over a million visitors per year, despite counting only a handful of inhabitants; this creates an ambiance that disappoints most tourists. On the hiking trails, we’ll often be alone, far from the crowds, and we can contemplate those same medieval villages from atop rocky perches, as they would have been seen 1000 years ago.
Understanding your surroundings: when walking through Provence, you can take the time to absorb everything around you and get to know it better – something you cannot do from behind the windows of a car or a tour bus.
Exercise: walking is a great way to exercise, it's low impact, and it makes you feel really good about yourself.
