About Stuart Sommers, mountain guide
I was born and raised in Toronto, Canada and worked as a teacher in a French immersion school.
I first visited Provence more
than ten years ago, and fell instantly in love with the countryside that I’ve now adopted as
my own. And without much hesitation,
I packed my bags and moved across 
the ocean to pursue my dream of becoming a mountain guide. As for any career choice in France,
a national diploma is required; to become a professional mountain guide, or
"accompagna- teur en montagne”,
I successfully passed the extensive and arduous 2-year training program. Today I am one of a handful of English - speaking mountain guides in all of France.
As a professional guide, and specialist of Provence, I can do more than lead you from A to B on the most beautiful trails: using my extensive knowledge of flora, fauna, geology, local history and culture, we can discuss anything about the region you may be curious about. And as I’m perfectly bilingual and fully integrated in my rural community in Provence, I can also help you understand a way of life and a culture much different than your own....
