How fit do I need to be to walk through Provence? What do I need to bring?
Provence is equipped with a never ending system of walking trails that intertwine throughout the countryside. This ensures that there’s walking for everybody: from easy strolls on seldom-used roads and tractor paths near villages to a 1500m (5000ft) climb from the base to the summit of Mont Ventoux and everything in between, together we can plan a hike that best suits your level of fitness and your interests. For any of my hikes, I will let you know of any potential difficulties before we set out – whether the nature of the terrain, the length of the hike, or the amount of climbing.
Hikes generally last anywhere from 2 hours to a full day (and beyond). Unless you’ve requested otherwise, I don’t lead walks for the purpose of pushing physical limits and setting records. Walking is a means to take in the
scenery, to understand your surroundings, and to have an unforgettable day; the good sweat is an added bonus and not the primary goal…
For day hikes, remember to bring the following items:
- worn-in hiking shoes (or comfortable walking shoes for easy terrain)
- backpack (about 30 litres for a full-day hike)
- 2 litres of water per person for a full-day hike
- picnic lunch and snacks for a full-day hike (remember that you are exercising and will need extra food)
- hat, sunglasses, sunscreen & extra layer in case of change of weather
