Here’s what people have to say about my tours. If you wish to contact any of my former guests, please let me know and I’ll put you in contact with them

Provence hike, October 2008

Stuart arranged seven days of point-to-point hiking in the Luberon and up Mt. Ventoux for me and four friends from the U.S. and Europe.  We preferred a self-guided tour, so Stuart mapped out each day's route, made the hotel and luggage transfer arrangements and provided maps and detailed route notes.  After discussing our preferences with me, he made excellent selections in every respect.  He was also available by phone to help us make a couple of modifications during the hike.  I recommend him and will use him again.

Week-long hiking tour, Oct. 2008

Anyone who has the good fortune to sign on with Stuart Sommers for a hiking adventure in Provence will be enriched in multiple ways. Not only is Stuart an extraordinary guide with an expert’s knowledge of the Provencal landscape (including flora and fauna), he goes out of his way to ensure that his clients will have a memorable hiking experience. Add to that, Stuart is a genuinely nice guy with an engaging personality.

In October of 2008, my husband Nick and I hiked with Stuart for five days in two different locations in Provence: the Dentelles de Montmirail and the Luberon. Based on several email exchanges and a few phone calls several months prior to our arrival in Provence, Stuart created five tailor made day hikes (including recommendations for accommodations) through the picture-perfect countryside of Provence. Nick and I quickly learned that each day on the trail with Stuart came with extra bonuses. Stuart readily shared his knowledge of history, culture, geology, food, wine, lavender and other plants with us. Needless to say, after five days on the trail with Stuart, we came away with a deeper appreciation of Provence than we had ever anticipated.

Provence hiking tour, October, 2007

My father, brother and I spent 5 glorious days in October of 2007 hiking in Provence guided by Stuart Sommers, mountain man, naturalist, sommelier and linguist extraodinaire. Not only does Stuart know the best views and trails in Provence, he knows the best wines, hotels, restaurants, castles - you get the picture - and the story behind each village in the area, the local political scene and exactly when it was that the cathedral burned down and was rebuilt. Plus, Stuart is a nice guy. Highly recommended for anyone who wants a Provence experience beyond a tour bus and a hotel.

September 2007, week-long walking tour in Provence

Stuart was a very well-liked tour leader, who knows the walking areas of Provence/Luberon like the back of his hand.  He has excellent people skills, catering for all personalities and walking abilities.  Stuart also has a wide-ranging knowledge of a lot of things -- flora, culture, history, wine & food, truffles (!) just to name a few.  And I have to make mention of the excellent picnic food that Stuart supplied.
